RESTON, VA – The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) Board today approved the framework of FirstNet’s proposed acquisition approach to deploy the nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN) and authorized the release of a Special Notice requesting feedback on draft Request for Proposals (RFP) documents.

FirstNet Extends Comment Period for Second Notice

RESTON, VA – The First Responder Network Authority (“FirstNet”) today announced that it is extending the comment period for its recently released Second Notice to ensure interested parties, including states and territories, have additional time to provide meaningful responses. Comments will now be accepted through April 28, 2015.

FirstNet Chairwoman Sue Swenson testified before the Senate Commerce Science and Transportation Committee today at a hearing titled "Three Years Later: Are We Any Closer To A Nationwide Public Safety Wireless Broadband Network?" In her testimony, Chair Swenson outlined both the progress and challenges in establishing a nationwide public safety broadband network. The testimony also points out the robust consultation and outreach that FirstNet has taken to coordinate with the public safety community at all levels of government to ensure the network is deployed throughout the nation, including in rural communities.

FirstNet Board Approves Release of Second Public Notice and Seeks Comments

RESTON, VA – As part of its ongoing efforts to consult with stakeholders, the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) Board today approved for release a second Public Notice (Second Notice) seeking comment on important interpretations of FirstNet’s enabling legislation, including public safety customer, operational, and funding considerations related to states or territories assuming responsibility for radio access network (RAN) deployment.

FirstNet Finance Committee Gives Go-Ahead To Fund Key RFP, Consultation Activities in FY15

RESTON, VA – The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) Finance Committee today approved Fiscal Year 2015 (FY15) funding guidance that supports program roadmap activities in the areas of Request for Proposal (RFP) development for the purpose of identifying and negotiating key private-public partnership arrangements; network planning and development; consultation with regional, state, tribal, and local jurisdictions; and organizational operations and infrastructure. The Finance Committee held a special meeting via a public teleconference during which it unanimously approved Resolution 8.

FirstNet Completes Successful Request for Information and Public Comment Period

WASHINGTON, DC - The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) has closed the window for responses to its September 17 Request for Information (RFI). FirstNet also closed the comment period for a Public Notice that was published in the Federal Register on September 24. Both the RFI and the Public Notice allowed stakeholders, including public safety professionals, regional, state, tribal and local jurisdictions, and the vendor community, to provide input and ideas on the development of the nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN).
