When most people think of public safety, their minds naturally jump to firefighting, law enforcement and emergency medical services (EMS). It’s true that these disciplines account for a great deal of first responders, but what about those who answer our emergency calls for help  at Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) and other emergency communications call centers?

A long-time FirstNet supporter, Charlottesville Fire Chief Emeritus Charles Werner has been a strong advocate for UAS technology as an additional tool for all public safety disciplines. During his 42 years of service, Werner learned first-hand about the importance of communication and the value of new technologies when responding to major emergencies. With the introduction of UAS devices for public safety use, first responders gain access to aerial views of the incident, as well as the ability to send real-time pictures and data to different locations.

FirstNet Heads to the Mile High City for #APCO2017

Next week, the FirstNet Team will travel to Denver, Colorado to present and exhibit at APCO International’s 2017 Annual Conference. The conference includes attendees from all aspects of public safety communications and is a great opportunity to continue our dialogue with this community on the public safety broadband network.

With the recent announcement of AT&T as FirstNet’s partner, FirstNet delivered State Plans that reflect the public safety priorities of states, territories, and the District of Columbia for the FirstNet network. FirstNet and AT&T are currently engaging with states to review their individual State Plans, which detail network deployment, coverage, products and services, and cost.

Consultation with States, Territories Ramps Up with Focus on State Plan Reviews

Since delivering State Plans less than a month ago, the FirstNet and AT&T team has crisscrossed the country to meet with 42 states and territories regarding their plans, with 12 more engagements slated for later this month.  The State Plan Review Consultation meetings are designed for the states and territories to ask questions and provide feedback on their plans, so the Governor in each state and territory has the information that she or he needs to make the most informed decision on its State Plan this year.

But what about the other responders involved in an emergency who quickly clear and repair the roads or help restore electricity and water after an emergency event?
