The World Police & Fire Games 2015 kicked off last week with an Opening Ceremony in Washington, D.C. that featured a welcome celebration, the parade of athletes, and the lighting of the ceremonial torch. The World Police & Fire Games Federation established the games in 1985, and since then they have become an international event that brings together more than 10,000 public safety personnel from 70 countries to showcase their athletic ability in more than 65 sporting events.
This year’s events began on June 26, 2015 and will run until July 5, 2015. During that time, first responders will compete in a wide array of events, such as archery, ice hockey, boxing, pistol combat, crossfit, ultimate firefighter competitions, track and field, and swimming, to name just a few.
