By TJ Kennedy, Firstnet Acting General Manager
This morning I had the opportunity to provide an update on FirstNet’s efforts to plan for the deployment of a nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN) with Federal News Radio during their daily morning show, “Federal Drive.” The show is a popular Washington, D.C.-based radio program that focuses on key developments in the federal government and includes interviews with key government executives. You can listen to the interview on FederalNewsRadio.com.
The interview is just one of many steps we have taken in recent weeks to enhance the awareness and understanding of the Request for Information (RFI) for Comprehensive Network Solutions and Public Notice on Proposed Interpretations of Parts of the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012. Both items are key opportunities for the general public, industry, and the public safety community to weigh in on some important issues going forward related to the building, deployment, operation, and maintenance of the network. It is critical that we have maximum participation by all interested parties as the responses will help shape possible future Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
These are complex issues, so FirstNet will continue to increase awareness and understanding of them through all means available to us. I want to say thanks to Tom Temin for the chance to share more about where we are with FirstNet as we move forward on our progress on the strategic program roadmap and a comprehensive acquisition approach to creating the NPSBN.
