The 10th annual Command, Control & Communications Vehicle Rally was held this past Friday at the Fairfax County Police Department's driver training facility in Chantilly, VA. Members of the FirstNet team attended the event along with hundreds of county, city, state and federal public safety professionals from the around the National Capital Region.

In addition to showing off the latest communications technologies for public safety use, the rally also provided an opportunity for members of the public safety community to network with their peers from other governments and agencies in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Attendees also observed interoperability exercises involving communications and public safety command units from all levels of government, as well as field unit operational expertise and training events.

Charlie Locke, Radio Interoperability Coordinator with the Fairfax County Radio Services Center, told FirstNet that the idea for the event originated in the National Capital Region in 2004. Since then, these types of rallies have been held in many states and localities around the nation. Fairfax County live streamed the rally on its website, which also included an aerial stream of the event from a helicopter. Both views are available at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/rally/.
