National Police Week 2014

The annual week-long event to honor our nation’s law enforcement kicked off yesterday, with special recognition for the men and women who have lost their lives in the line of duty. National Police Week runs May 11-17 this year and has its roots in a presidential proclamation that designates May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day.

The week attracts tens of thousands of law enforcement officers to Washington, DC, with numerous special events planned to honor and remember those who have served. For more information about these events, please visit http://www.policeweek.org/schedule.html

FirstNet salutes law enforcement officers across the country for the sacrifices they make every day to protect and serve the American public. Ensuring that law enforcement has access to reliable and interoperable communications is a key driver for establishing a nationwide public safety broadband network.

The FirstNet team is eager to hear from jurisdictions and law enforcement agencies around the country about what they are doing to commemorate National Police Week. Please send a tweet to @FirstNetGov or email socialmedia@FirstNet.gov to tell us about your community events for this week. We will do our best to share your tweets and post additional links and information to this blog post during National Police Week.

Thank you for your service.
