The National Fire Academy (NFA) is offering a Managing Officer Program for firefighters and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel interested in professional development and advanced management skills. The program’s multiyear curriculum builds on foundational management and technical competencies. It also connects up-and-coming emergency services leaders to personal and professional skills in change management, risk reduction and adaptive leadership.
Those accepted into the program will receive training, continuing education and opportunities to network with other fire service professionals. Upon completion, responders will have a broadened management skill set and will be better prepared for career advancement. Requirements for selection into the program include experience as a supervising officer, an associate degree (or a minimum of 60 college credit hours toward the completion of a bachelor’s degree) and specified training. The deadline for applying is December 15, 2014.
The NFA will conduct its first Managing Officer Program sessions in April and August 2015. Applicants who have submitted and completed their application by the December 15 deadline will be chosen for one of the 2015 sessions or offered a spot in a 2016 session, depending on date and availability.
